Kutch, in the far west of Gujarat, suits travellers who want a holiday that feels different from the usual hill or beach trip. Our Kutch tour packages run from 2 to 6 days and start from Bhuj, with an Ahmedabad start on request. Read More
The landscape of Kutch takes in quiet beaches, old palaces, important temples and the White Rann, a vast salt flat that is usually at its whitest from November to February. The Banni grassland and Chhari Dhand wetland add winter birding. Top attractions include Kalo Dungar, Vijay Vilas Palace, Prag Mahal and Aina Mahal, and our packages are planned around them.
Our Kutch packages include the Best of Kutch Tour, the Gujarat Textile & Handicraft Tour and Rann Utsav tours. If you travel between 1 November 2026 and 7 March 2027, you can add Rann Utsav, the season-long festival at Dhordo with Kutchi folk music, dance and a craft market. The trips suit solo travellers, families, honeymoon couples and anyone looking for a quiet break.

Rann Utsav 2026-27: Dates, Tent City and Tariff
Rann Utsav 2026-27 runs from 1 November 2026 to 7 March 2027 at Dhordo, on the edge of the White Rann. It is a season of about four months, not a three-day event. The Tent City is run by Evoke Experiences with Gujarat Tourism, and Dhordo was named a UNWTO Best Tourism Village in 2023.
You can do the White Rann without staying at the Tent City. A package can use a hotel in Bhuj or a resort near Hodka and Dhordo, then visit the Rann for sunset. The Tent City adds folk performances, the craft market and transfers to the Rann on fixed timings.
At the Tent City you get evening folk performances, a craft market, morning yoga, and camel cart or bus rides out to the Rann.

Places Covered in Our Kutch Tours
Kutch is easiest to plan by direction from Bhuj. Group the places below by area and you avoid long backtracking.
North: White Rann, Kalo Dungar and Dholavira
- White Rann, Dhordo: the salt flat used for Rann Utsav, about 80 to 85 km from Bhuj. Go at sunset, or on a full-moon night for the silver glow.
- Kalo Dungar (Black Hill): the highest point in Kutch at 462 m, about 97 km from Bhuj. It has a Dattatreya temple and a wide view over the Rann. An army post sits at the top, so visitors stop at the viewpoint below it. The area is under army jurisdiction and Gujarat Tourism states that photography is not allowed there.
- Dholavira: a Harappan city and UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2021. From Dhordo it is about 105 km, around 2 hours by the Tent City's own estimate. Part of the drive is the Road to Heaven, a 30 km stretch across the Rann on the way to Dholavira.
- Gandhi nu Gaam and Khavda: small craft villages on the way to Kalo Dungar.
Central: Bhuj and Craft Villages
- Bhuj: Aina Mahal, Prag Mahal, Kutch Museum, the Swaminarayan temple and Smritivan, the 2001 earthquake memorial and museum.
- Bhujodi: weaving and shawls, close to Bhuj.
- Ajrakhpur: Ajrakh block printing and the LLDC craft museum.
- Nirona: Rogan art and hand-made copper bells.
South: Mandvi
Mandvi is about 60 km from Bhuj, roughly an hour by road. It has a beach, the Vijay Vilas Palace and a traditional wooden shipbuilding yard. It works as a day trip or as a relaxed last night after the desert.
West: Pilgrimage and Heritage
Narayan Sarovar is about 150 km from Bhuj, with the Koteshwar Mahadev temple 4 km away. Lakhpat Fort and Mata no Madh (Ashapura Mata temple) are on the same side. These fit best into a 5- or 6-day plan.
Nature: Banni and Chhari Dhand
The Banni grassland and Chhari Dhand wetland, north of Bhuj, are known for winter birding, including flamingos. Wild ass are seen in the Little Rann of Kutch, a separate salt marsh on the Surendranagar side of the Gulf of Kutch, not on the White Rann.

- Is the stay at the Rann Utsav Tent City, a resort near Dhordo or a hotel in Bhuj?
- Is the car private or a shared coach?
- Does the plan include sunset at the White Rann on the day you arrive there?
- Is the White Rann permit fee included?
- Are Dholavira and Mandvi part of the plan, or optional extras?
Planning Tips for Kutch
- Apply for the White Rann permit online. The Bhirandiyara queue gets long on weekends and holidays.
- Reach the White Rann at least an hour before sunset, which gets later through the season. The Tent City's own sunset visit runs from 5 to 7 pm.
- Do not plan Dholavira and Mandvi on the same day. They are on opposite sides of Kutch.
Booking and Cancellation
- Send your dates, group size and preferred hotel or tent category through the enquiry form, call or WhatsApp.
- We share an itinerary and quote, usually within 2 hours.
Tent City bookings follow the Tent City's own cancellation rules, which we share with the quote.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. What is the best time to visit Kutch?
October to March is the most comfortable time for Kutch. For the White Rann, go between November and February, when the salt surface is dry; after a heavy monsoon it can form late. Group places by direction so you are not backtracking every day.
Q2. How many days are enough for a Kutch tour?
Four to six days give a balanced trip covering Bhuj, the White Rann, craft villages and a coastal or western Kutch day. With only two days, keep to Bhuj and the White Rann.
Q3. What is the price of a Kutch tour package?
It depends on the number of days, hotel or tent category and vehicle. A Tent City stay is priced separately from a full tour. Its base rate starts at ₹6,300 per person per night in a Non-AC Swiss Cottage, plus GST.
Q4. What are the top places to visit in Kutch?
Bhuj, the White Rann at Dhordo, Kalo Dungar, Dholavira, craft villages such as Bhujodi and Nirona, Mandvi, and Narayan Sarovar and Koteshwar in western Kutch. Distances are long, so plan one or two areas a day.
Q5. Why is the White Rann famous?
It is a vast salt flat that turns white once the monsoon water dries. Sunset and full-moon nights are the most popular times to see it. The Tent City and nearby villages add folk music, crafts and local food.
Q6. When is Rann Utsav 2026-27, and what are the full-moon dates?
Rann Utsav 2026-27 runs from 1 November 2026 to 7 March 2027 at Dhordo. Full-moon dates are 23 to 25 November, 22 to 24 December, 21 to 23 January and 19 to 21 February; these are the busiest dates.
Q7. Are the White Rann and Rann Utsav the same?
No. The White Rann is the natural salt flat. Rann Utsav is the seasonal festival and Tent City beside it at Dhordo. You can see the White Rann without staying at the Tent City.
Q8. Do I need a permit for the White Rann?
Yes. Apply online at rannpermit.gujarat.gov.in or at the Bhirandiyara check post, and carry a photo ID for each traveller. The fee has been ₹100 per adult; check the portal before you travel.
Q9. Can I book a Kutch tour from Ahmedabad or Mumbai?
Yes. Bhuj is about 335 km from Ahmedabad, roughly 7 hours by road, and we can start the tour there. From Mumbai, fly or take the train to Bhuj and we pick you up on arrival.
Q10. Which handicrafts should I look for in Kutch?
Kutchi embroidery, Ajrakh block printing, Bandhani, weaving, Rogan art, copper bells, leatherwork and pottery. Buying in villages like Bhujodi, Ajrakhpur and Nirona lets you see the work being made and lets you buy from the makers.
Q11. Can I visit Mandvi during a Kutch tour?
Yes. Mandvi is about 60 km from Bhuj, roughly an hour away. It works as a day trip or an overnight stop for the beach and Vijay Vilas Palace, and is a good change after the desert days.
Q12. Is Kutch suitable for families and senior citizens?
Yes. The main challenge is long drives, not the sights. Choose fewer hotel changes, one or two areas a day and regular breaks. At the Tent City, transfers to the Rann run by bus or camel cart.
Q13. What should I pack for Kutch in winter?
Layers, because afternoons are mild but desert nights get cold in December and January. Add sunglasses, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, a water bottle and lip balm for the dry wind.
Q14. Can Kutch be combined with Dwarka and Somnath?
Yes, but give it enough days. Kutch and Saurashtra are separate regions with long drives between them, so plan a circuit with overnight stops. See our Gujarat tour packages for combined routes.
Plan Your Kutch Trip
For a first visit, a 4-night Kutch tour package can cover the White Rann, Kalo Dungar, Dholavira and Mandvi. Expect two long driving days, the Dholavira day and the Mandvi day. Families and senior travellers do best with a Bhuj base and one Tent City night. Send us your dates for an itinerary and quote.
