During the season, a Tent City of Swiss cottages, tents and suites is set up at Dhordo to house visitors. Days and evenings are filled with folk music and dance, craft stalls and sunset visits to the salt flat. Kutchi and Gujarati culture sits at the centre of this months-long festival, which began in 2005 as a three-day event.

Our Rann Utsav packages run from 2 to 6 days and take you to the White Rann at sunset, and on full moon dates, under moonlight. Along the way you meet artisan communities in villages like Hodka, Bhujodi and Nirona, known for embroidery, weaving, leatherwork and Rogan painting. Rann Utsav 2026-27 Dates and Full Moon Special Dates

The official Tent City season is 1 November 2026 to 7 March 2027. Full moon and holiday weeks book out first and cost more, so plan these dates early.

The official Tent City adds a peak surcharge from one day before each full moon period. Some booking sites list the full moon windows a day earlier than the dates above, which come from the official Tent City site.

Best Time to Visit Rann Utsav

December to February is the best time to visit. The salt is at its whitest then, and the nights on the Rann turn cool. November is warmer and less crowded but the Rann may still be damp early in the month, and the season closes on 7 March.

Sunrise and sunset times are approximate, calculated for Dhordo on the 15th of each month, so check the time for your exact travel date. Plan to reach the sunset point about 30 minutes early. Temperatures are approximate, based on IMD Bhuj daily reports and long-term averages.

Rann Utsav Tent City Price 2026-27 (Official Tariff)

The official Tent City at Dhordo is run by Evoke Experiences for Gujarat Tourism. Its published 2026-27 base rate starts at ₹6,300 per person for one night in a Non-AC Swiss Cottage, with meals, cultural evenings and the White Rann sunset visit included.

Peak dates are 18 Dec to 2 Jan and the December and January full moons. A middle slab adds ₹2,000 per person to a 1-night stay during Diwali week, the November, February and March full moons, and the rest of December and January. Suite rates are as published for all dates. Rates exclude GST. Children under 6 stay free, and a single guest pays 75% of the double rate.

Tent City Check-in and Bhuj Transfer Timings

Official Tent City check-in is 12:30 and check-out is 09:30. Its shared transfers leave Bhuj Railway Station and Bhuj Airport at 08:15, 10:00, 13:30, 15:30 and 17:30, and the return runs at 04:30 and 09:30. The sunset visit to the White Rann is usually 5 to 7 PM. Food is vegetarian, and Jain meals are available on request.

Tent City vs Bhunga Stay

The Tent City puts you inside the festival; a Bhunga resort in Hodka or Dhordo village costs less and feels more local. A Tent City stay includes a sunset visit to the White Rann. From a Bhunga resort, the drive time depends on the village and the property, so ask before you book.

How to Reach Rann Utsav, Dhordo

Bhuj is the gateway. Fly or take a train to Bhuj, then drive about 85 km north to Dhordo, which takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. Our 2, 3, 4 and 6-day packages start in Bhuj and include this transfer. The Best of Kutch and Kutch & Bhuj tours start in Ahmedabad and reach Kutch by road.

• By air: Bhuj Airport (BHJ) is about 85 km from Dhordo, with flights from Mumbai and seasonal connections from other cities. Ahmedabad airport has wider connections and is about 410 km away by road.
• By train: Bhuj Railway Station is about 85 km from Dhordo and has direct trains from Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Delhi. From Mumbai, the Kutch Express (22955) and the Bandra-Bhuj AC Superfast (22903) run from Bandra Terminus; from Pune, there are weekly trains to Bhuj and Gandhidham. Check current days and timings on IRCTC before you plan.
• By road: GSRTC and private buses run to Bhuj. From there, take our transfer or book a cab through our car rental in Kutch service.

Distance to Dhordo from Major Cities

White Rann Entry Permit

You need a permit to enter the White Rann because it is close to the India-Pakistan border. The Kutch district administration issues it online and at the Bhirandiyara check post on the Bhuj-Dhordo road.

1. Apply online before you travel; the lead traveller uploads a photo ID. This saves time at the Bhirandiyara counter.
2. Carry the original ID of every adult in the group. It is checked at the permit counter and at checkpoints on the way to the Rann.
3. Keep the permit printout or screenshot handy until you leave the Rann.

Permit fees and ID rules can change between seasons, so check both on the official permit portal before you go. Kalo Dungar is also in the border zone, and photography is restricted near the army post at the top.

Places to Visit Near the White Rann

Most travellers pair the White Rann with Kalo Dungar and a craft village; Dholavira and Mandvi need a day each. Check the closed days before you fix your itinerary. With a spare day in Bhuj, see our Bhuj sightseeing tour.

India Bridge is about a 15-minute drive from the base of Kalo Dungar; photography is not allowed in this army-controlled area. The Road to Heaven is a straight road of about 30 km across the Rann toward Dholavira; sunset there is worth timing for.

Official Tent City part: 90% refund if cancelled 30 or more days before arrival, 60% if 15 to 29 days before, and no refund within 15 days, as per the official Tent City policy. Date changes and name changes carry a fee.

Q6. What should I wear during Rann Utsav?

Ans. Wear layers. Afternoons are sunny and warm, but nights on the open Rann get cold and windy, especially in December and January, so pack a warm jacket. Comfortable shoes, sunglasses and sunscreen help with the bright salt. Also carry original photo ID, a power bank and some cash for village craft shopping.

Q7. Do I need identification or permits for the White Rann?

Ans. Yes. Every visitor needs a White Rann entry permit because the area is close to the international border. You can get it online or at the Bhirandiyara check post. Carry original photo ID for each adult; it is checked more than once.

Q8. Is a full-moon visit better for the White Rann?

Ans. A full moon over the salt flat is the most popular time to visit. The 2026-27 full moon periods are 23-25 Nov, 22-24 Dec, 21-23 Jan and 19-21 Feb, and these dates are more crowded and cost more. Sunrise and sunset on other dates are quieter, and the Tent City charges less.
