Dwarka is a celebrated pilgrimage center in the state of Gujarat. It is one of the holy Chardham as well as ‘Sapta Puri’; i.e. ‘seven sacred places of Hinduism’. Thus Dwarka is a destination that every devout Hindus crave to visit. Dwarka as per legends had been the kingdom of Lord Krishna in the ancient times. A visit to Dwarka, thereby, helps one relive the legends & tales associated with Mahabharata.
This holy city is located in Gujarat’s Saurashtra Peninsula at its western tip and within the district of Jamnagar. Also, it falls on River Gomti’s right bank. The latitudinal and longitudinal extents for Dwarka are 23 degree 14’ N and 69 degree 01’ E.
By Bus:
Dwarka has a well developed state highway connecting Dwarka to all other cities of Gujarat such as Jamnagar, Surat, Ahmedabad, Vadodara etc, and even cities of many neighboring states. Regular buses; both public as well as private buses, ply between these cities and Dwarka and at frequent intervals. Thus reaching Dwarka by bus is not much of a hassle.
By Train:
The city of Dwarka boasts of a very well developed railway network with well maintained trains at frequent regular intervals. There are many intercity trains connecting Dwarka station to all other major stations of Gujarat. Also, there are many other long distance express trains connecting Dwarka to the rest of India. Some of the most common trains running between Dwarka and other cities are Okha-Puri express, Uttaranchal Express, Somnath-Dwarka express, Guwahati express, Varanasi-Okha express, Dwarka express, Okha-Howrah express, Madurai-Okha Vivek Express, Ahmedabad-Okha Passenger etc.
By Air:
The airport that lies in vicinity to Dwarka is Jamnagar airport known by the name of Govardhanpur airport, located at a distance of nearly 131kms from the Dwarka city. The airport has flight connectivity with almost all other cities of Gujarat and of India as a whole. Domestic flights, commercial and private flights connect the airport to rest of India. Another option is taking flight to Porbandar airport, located at a distance of about 109kms from Dwarka. After reaching airport you can proceed for Dwarka by means of cab or bus.
By Cab:
Taxis and cabs regularly ply between Dwarka and other cities of Gujarat and also between various places within the Dwarka city.
By Local Transport:
Once you are at Dwarka, you can avail local transport such as autos, cycle rickshaws and even local buses to make a tour of the city.
Dwarka has excellent road connectivity with all other major cities of Gujarat. Gujarat state transport corporation shoulders the responsibility of maintaining these roads and also administering the services of buses plying on these roads.
